Step 1 - Community Development Grant (CDG)
The @MATES4Kids (Maximising Access To Essential Supplies for Children) Movement and CLAN (Caring & Living As Neighbours) are proud to offer AUD $1,000 grants to support community development efforts that will:
- Improve access to CAH medicines
- Strengthen CAH (Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia) Communities and/or
- Scale Newborn Screening (NBS) Programs.
Why: CAH Communities in resource-poor settings experience inequitable and preventable morbidity and mortality. Improving access to essential medicines; strengthening CAH communities by addressing the Five Pillars of CLAN; and early diagnosis through NBS have been demonstrated to effectively reduce the preventable mortality associated with CAH. These grants aim to support community informed actions to address local priorities and needs.
When: Grant applications will be received at any time. Successful applicants will be announced at the next upcoming @MATES4Kids event. Proposed initiatives must commence within one month of receiving the grant and be completed within 12 months of receiving the grant.
Who: CAH Community Members, Health Professionals (including paediatricians, nurses and community health workers) and other participants of the @MATES4Kids Movement are eligible to apply. Applicants must be registered @MATES4Kids Community of Practice (CoP) on the World Health Organization’s Knowledge Action Portal. Collaborative approaches are recommended. People living with CAH must be involved in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of any projects. It is recommended representatives from national Paediatric Endocrinology or Paediatric societies are included as mentors or partners in project proposals.
Where: Projects must focus on priorities of CAH Communities in countries that are classified as low-income, lower-middle-income, or upper-middle-income (as per the World Bank rankings). Projects based in high-income-countries will not be considered. See Appendix for list of eligible countries.
How: Applicants must complete the attached form and email to [email protected]. Successful applicants will be notified soon after and announced at the next key @MATES4Kids event (such as a Community of Practice meeting, UN side-event or other gathering). Each grant recipient will be invited to share updates and presentations on their projects throughout the year at @MATES4Kids CoP Meetings and other events as opportunities arise.
Quarterly project health check updates are to be shared with the @MATES4Kids team via email (to [email protected] in March / June / September / December each year – see application form for template). Recipients will also commit to sharing a final report on their project that will be posted on the @MATES4Kids CoP on the World Health Organization’s Knowledge Action Portal (WHO KAP). Recipients will commit to completing the @MATES4Kids Indicators for their country during the course of their project.
